Problem with Contact in Static Structural

Hi, I'm a 3rd Year Student and I'm trying to model a prototype joint in ANSYS, however I am having lots of problems getting it to solve. The joint consists of a wire passing through a hole in a block, then it is bent around to stop it coming back through (please see attached image). I'm then applying a displacement to the end face of the wire, to see the stresses and deformation.
I was getting a lot of problems with penetration, however I think I solved that problem by switching on Shared Topology to achieve conformal meshing, however the model now won't solve. I have tried adjusting all of the contact options, but nothing seems to work.
Any help would be massively appreciated, thank you!

You can insert "contact tool" and look if the contact status is ok. If there aren't initial contact, ansys will ignore the contact (you can try changing pinball region)
 
First off, conformal mesh will not allow the parts to move relative to each other, you want separate parts. I would try using two contacts, one "no separation" for the sliding in the hole; and frictionless or frictional for the other one. The contact faces selected are very large and will contain a lot of elements that could take a while. I would experiment with "trim" settings on the frictional / frictionless contact and I would consider slicing the end of the wire parallel to the contact surface of the plate, to reduce the selected surface area of the contact. Please ensure that the wire is the contact and the plate is the target, it is critical for penetration calculations that the part being penetrated is the target. Also I would recommend ensuring midside nodes are kept in the mesh settings and you have a decent mesh density in the contact region of both parts.
