Hello
On tall process columns such as we have to design approx. 120 ft tall, in the order of 8 to 10 ft diameter, insulated 2" with a number (approx 5 to 7) access platforms with ladders for manway access as well as a large pipe going along the length of the column to the top nozzle, is vortex shedding-induced vibration something which I need to look out for , or often occurs for such towers which are fixed only at the base with a skirt? I ask this because my research does not show any examples of such towers with cork-screw / helixes on the top and in any case the lagging would interfere with such.
Thanks!

I would definitely look into it, that doesn't necessarily mean the cork-screw/ helixes (strakes, I think they are?) are required, though. Bednar has a pretty good discussion of it.

Thanks JStephen
