projected sketch into a face. 1

I have projected a sketch onto a cylindrical face. Is there any way that I can turn that projected sketch into a seperate face or surface on the cylindrical face?

Yes. If you're using a closed profile that is fully within the bounds of your cylindrical face, project the curve as a split line.

If the surface is fully cylindrical, you might want to make sure the plane on which your sketch is built is within your cylindrical surface. (Otherwise, your sketch will project onto your cylindrical surface twice during the projection--but you might be looking for that.)

If that fails, you can split your cylindrical surface into two surfaces before performing the split line projection, and then you will only split half your cylinder.

When I try split line, project, this sketch and with face1, I get a -sketch has no contour geometry-? I used the select contour option, but it does not help?

I assume you mean that you used the "select contour option" to create the sketch!
If so your sketch will not have any lines/curves in it. The select Contour selection tool only recognizes a surface to be used for an extrude boss/cut operation.

You will have to use the Convert entities option to create a sketch with actual lines/curves in it.
