Pump seized

5 stage barrel type horizontal centrifugal boiler feed water pump got seized during laser alignment. What could be reason ? Shaft on DE & NDE was kept aligned by chain blocks. One maintenance guru says that it could be due to reverse rotation during alignment. According to him , seizure is due to long built profiles/depositions/burs that might have caused fusion/restriction between impeller and casing wear ring during reverse rotation. Clearance is 0.3mm. Your thoughts.....

If reverse hurt it then forward would also.
Sounds like it was overloaded either in defections or thrust.

Seized up during alignment? My first guess is that the case is twisted. Loosen the foundation bolts and check for a soft foot.

Rubbing was found between casing wear ring and impeller on last stage. 01 Cooling jacket bolt & lock washer was found missing. It seems that caused stuckness.
