Hi Folks,

Any tips/references on how to calculate purge rate for small scale test rig will be much appreciated(consists of receiver tank, high pressure reservoir, gas expander, test section, intermediate low tempereature pressure tank) ?

What are you purging (e.g., are you trying to get rid of air prior to introducing flamable gas, or trying to maintain a known atmosphere for maintenenace)? What kind of purge are you trying to do (e.g. a clearing purge has a different design than a dilution purge)?

Hi Zdas04

2 reasons for purging:

*Either the gas is to be replaced.(Flamable gas consisting from 80-90% of methane,5-10% CO2,2-5% N2)

*depressurise and dismantle parts of the test rig

It is clearing purge.

Chapter 7 of Chemical Process Safety: Fundamentals with applications by Crowl & Louvar (Prentice Hall) describes several purging procedures.

25362,

Can you please send me some link to review chapter 7 of this book?

25362,

I need to calculate purge rate, not look for purge procedures. If book which you recommended only describes purge procedures, then it is not what I needed,

Thanks

Idontknowit, every procedure is exemplified with a calculation.
