Hello,

Is it possible to use "from pattern feature" option for fully constrained components to create an component array?

I'm able to array the components by giving two constraints align and touch w.r.t the referencing Pattern feature but I want to freeze the orientation also.

What version of NX are you using?

Sorry... I missed it..I'm using NX8.5

With NX 8.5, you'll have to add some additional constraint, perhaps Angle, to fully lock-down the Component so that there's no degrees-of-freedom left.

However, starting with NX 9.0 we added a new Assembly constraint type called 'Align/Lock'. It sort of acts like the 'Concentric' constraint except that once applied, there are no degrees-of-freedom. It was designed specifically for constraining cylindrical Component as it only needs a single constraint to fully lock-down parts that often get left with the ability to rotate when in the real-world we know that wouldn't happen, like with fasteners like bolts and pins.

Hi,

Sorry for the delayed response...

Why "From Pattern Feature" will not work, when the Components are constrained to Patterned "CSYS".

I suspect that it doesn't see the CSYS as a 'feature' in the classical sense. Could you at least provide a picture of what it is that you're attempting?

First change the setting 'From Pattern Feature' to 'Circular'. Then in the next screen, Axis Definition --> Datum Axis, choose the Z axis, Total number = 6 and Angle = 60. Ok , done.

Best regards,

Michaël.

@Michael--- your suggestion works well eqaully spaced holes. what about Holes at different pitch angles???
And if I do so, I'll not have the link between n.oof Holes in Cylinder and no.of rods in assembly.

If this is really what you want to do, or feel that you need to do, then I recommend that you upgrade to at least NX 9.0 ASAP since this works exactly as you would like it to, starting with NX 9.0.
