If you want a different position for one of the hose fittings in the top level assembly, try using the 'override position' function. Right click on the component of interest and choose Override Position. You will now be able to move it to the position you need without it affecting the subassembly or other assemblies.

Thanks. Is there any way to make this default so I dont have to keep overiding position for every component/

Check to see if your components were loaded using the Lightweight (i.e. Faceted) Reference Sets. If so, you will need to Replace the Reference Sets of those components from which you wish to reference edges/faces, to be Model Reference Sets rather than Lightweight.

BTW, starting with NX 7.5 this will no longer be an issue as you will be able to work full time using Lightweight representations and the system will automatically load the necessarily edge/face data needed to create constraints as you make your selections without the user needing to take any explicit action to change how components were loaded.

The Override Position works fimne I just wish it was default. I actually remembered about lightweight models so that was the first thing I checked and that wasn't the problem. Everything was assembled with model ref sets. Thanks for the input though, you never know the skillset of the person you trying to help.

Just an update to the problem I described above. I found this out awhile ago and should have updated it then. In the "customer defaults" > Assemblies > Positioning make sure "Anywhere in Assembly " is set under "Move component scope".
Once I set this and restarted (Customer defaults are not plug and play) I was able to select any component in the assembly when using constraints regardless of where in the assembly structure it was. Just in case anyone was having the same issue.
