Hello everyone,

Hope you are all in good health.

I want to ask the experts, How many (multiple) times re-welding of joints is allowed in ASME? (CS, Alloy and Stainless Steel)

Thank you in advance for your answer.

If your question involves a full cut out of a weld, there is no limit to how many. What ASME Codes are you addressing? Each has its own requirements regarding repairs and whether impact toughness and PWHT are required.

ASME doesnt specifically mention how many time we can weld at the same spot.

This is usually addressed either in the WPS repair procedure or the welding specification / construction specification.

You usually only get one chance at a repair before full cut out.

Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

Sir/s:

Thank you for the response.
It is a full cut out of joint. Because of not passing the NDE requirement.
As required by client, only 3 cut out on same joint.

Thank u

The customer sets the rules.
I have seen some cases where a minimum cutout is required or other restrictions.

The customer is primarily concerned with two things:
1. Welder's ability to make accepable welds.
2. The effect of multiple welds on an expanded HAZ.

If the cutout welds remove all traces of the HAZ and any deformation caused by the original welds, the customer should have no problem with multiple repairs. The question for youishoedo I prove it.

I've seen customers who demanded that welders be terminated from making pressure retaining welds when a specifed number of his/her welds were rejected. I would simply terminate hin/her anyway becausethey cost me money as thecontractor.
