Recommend Mechanical Engineering Design Books 3

Dear Experts,

I wish to buy a good engineering design book for use as reference.
Currently my workplace has the following:

• Machine Design: An integrated approach by Norton.
• Mechanical Engineering Design by Joseph Shigley.
• 27th Edition of Machinery's Handbook.
• Mechanics of Materials by Hidgon and a few others

My favourite is Machine Design by Norton. Does anyone recommend a similar book that’s on a par with this one? I don’t really want to buy a book I already have access to.

Topics I look for are
Design for Static strength, fatigue strength, stress analysis, deflection and stiffness, design of mechanical elements like couplings, gears, bearings etc etc.

I’m looking for a general all round type of book and with an interactive CD would be cool ?

Any information will be appreciated.

I have found the following books to be good, updated references on machine design, fatigue, etc.:

Machine Elements - Life and Design by Klebanov, et al, (published in 2008 by CRC Press)

Fatigue of Structures and Materials, 2nd edition by J. Schijve (published in 2009 by Springer)

Both have a different "feel" than Shigley's book, so they likely would be complimentary, with reasonable overlap but not complete redundancy.

ASME Y14.5-1994 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
Mark's Handbook (available for free at asme.org if you're a member)
ASM Metal's Handbook
 
Mechanical Engineering Design - Shigley
(my first copy fell apart I'd used it so much)

Roarks formulas for stress and strain

two books by JE Gordon are worth a read
Structures and the New Science of strong materials

Metals in the service of man (metalurgy)Alexander and street

but the internet is your best friend

I used this alot covers a lot of things, I think shigley is better but i think sometimes having a simpler explanation in areas it makes it easier to understand and find more info later.

Those 2 are very comparable.
The latter uses more vectoral notation.

Something else to consider in machine design is the ways the machinery will fail once put in service. They didn't teach it in school, but I recommend reviewing some of Heinz Bloch's books on machinery failure modes and troubleshooting for application on the user end.

I like Shigley and Mischke's "Mechanical Engineering Design" for a good review of design principles. Granted, I am not a design engineer but rather an industrial process support engineer with a background in the maintenance of mechanical equipment and system reliability.
