Hi,
In a part, Is it possible to have only the final body in one layer and all other surfaces, sketches, planes, associated withe body in another layer?
For eg:
I have 2 surfaces in layer 2. When i do sew operation making Layer 2 as working layer, the surfaces and the Sew operation move to layer 1, even if my working layer is Layer 2. Is there a possibility to have only sew in 1 layer and surfaces in another.

Thanks and Regards,
Isha

No
When two bodies are united together, or surfaces sewn together they will take on the layer of the parent body.
What are you trying to do here? Maybe we can offer an alternative.

Yes / No

It's depending if the feature you use "consume" the surfaces or not.
in the case of the Sew feature, the input surfaces will be "consumed" by the sew feature. The surfaces will be sewn into the resulting body.
In other features such as "Trim Body" the surfaces will not be consumed by the trim feature, they will remain as separate bodies .

So,if the surfaces are "consumed", the result will reside on the same layer as the target body ( the target in that feature)
If not "consumed", the separate sheet bodies can be on any layer.

Hi,
Thanks all for the answers. The issue is, as per our client requirement, they want only solid feature in one layer , surfaces in another, sketches in another etc. Now, when i move sew feature to one layer, the corresponding surfaces also moves to that layer. But sew is a solid body. I dont want the surfaces to move to the same layer.Any possible solution?

You cannot move a "feature" to a different layer, a feature is an "operation" and not normally an object. You can only move objects to layers.
( In some cases it's difficult to tell the difference between object and feature because they act together and report as one in the Part nabvigator.)
The Part navigator is not the total truth in this matter. Press Ctrl+L and then click the Information button, and you will see what Object is on what layer.

Tomas
