I am designing a concrete slab that will stop short of a complete slab pour due to construction constraints. I am looking for a tube/pipe insert to embed at the edge of the pour. I would like to insert dowels into the tube/pipe when the remainder of the slab is to be poured. I am tryign to avoid casting the dowels in the first pour to avoid them sticking out until the rest of the slab is poured. Does anybody make such an item? Should I just go with a pipe that fits the dowel?

i've seen the inserts before...not sure what they're called...but they do exist. the ones i saw create the slip joint at the pour back strips for tilt panel warehouses.

Ancon shear connectors are available in the UK, Australia and elsewhere and do what you describe.

If you don't want a movement joint, cast in threaded inserts (ferrules) and screw in rebar with a threaded end when required.
