Is there a way (preferably in CAE) to let ABAQUS remove an element once it becomes distorted past a certain limit, based on the elements geometry?

I have a nice little model going, that abort due to excessive distortion in a certain region. However, the distorted elements have already passed out of the region of interest, so I'd feel comfortable removing them (as their influence on the region of interest has become negligable).

You can define the 'Damage Initiation' and 'Damage Evolution' in the material and based upon your defintions abaqus will determine if an element has failed or not. If it has failed then it will no longer be used in calculation. And if you visually want to remove the elements from screen you can aditionaly set 'Element Deletion=YES'
