I´m preparing a research with inconel 625 corrosion resistant overlay on a pipe (API 5L X-65).
I´ll make some test coupons with many differents welding parameters to analyze.
How can I conclude through examination of microstructures if the mechanical properties or microstructures have been altered by the heat or another factor?
Exist charts of inconel microstructures showing the ideal condition, defects, etc??
What´s the examination beyond macro can I use to make my research?
The purpose of this research is show to the welding operators, what is the defects and why the defects become and how to avoid.

Clayton

Clayton;
Your question below that you asked can be very involved to answer depending on how in depth you would like to go...

My advice would be to contact the technical folks at Special Metals and discuss your objective with them directly. They also have a welding/fabrication brochure that describes some of the weld defects regarding Ni-base alloys. I have contacted them before and they have been very helpful.

In Metallurgical Transactions A, Volume 20A (April 1989), pp. 665-681, you will find an excellent paper entitled "Phase Transformations at Steel/IN625 Clad Interfaces" by Raghavan Ayer et al., which might help you address some of your research problems and questions.

You will also want to run corrosion tests on the clad surface to make sure that it meets what is expected of 625.
