Hi,

I have a requirement to supply a monolock rivet for aircraft panel repairing. Please see the attached image.

1) I am trying to understand what is the advantage of monolock rivet over other rivets ?.
2) markings- there are two markings on top of this. i couldnt find any details about this in the rivet standards sheets.
3) Different colors- I believe the head is anodized for corrosion resistance. I am not able to understand the coatings of the stem & its advantage.

Anyone please help me to understand more.

have you tried the rivet manufacturer ? (Auveco)

another day in paradise, or is paradise one day closer ?

I had a look into their catalogues, it says about visibility advantage thru the mandrel head. I have referred some other pictures also but the breakage is not clear, whethe the mandrel breakage provides any hole for inspection. Thats why I am looking for more info. Or it may be for providing a non sealing joint.

Auveco doesn't have the exact size as per my requirements.

no, I think the mandrel is retained in the rivet after installation (or "breakage", if I understand right).

If they don't have the right size, why are you proposing them ??
Maybe try another manufacturer, Cherry (aka Peerless aka LISI) ?

Thanks for the reply. I wanto understand , what is the advantage of this head over other type of mandrel heads.

I assume the OEM used these in the first place ... and you're just replacing them. If so, match the OEM's finish.

From the pix online, it looks like the stem shouldn't leak. you can always add a drop of locktite to hold the stem.

The only thing that seems to stand out is a bigger grip range, so that's a possible advantage. Otherwise, it's pretty much just like any solid core blind rivet

V_VV.... WHAT part number???

'Au-ve-co' is a fastener/blind rivet manufacturer I am completely unfamiliar with... until I googled-them. I took a peek at an Au-ve-co BR catalog and did not recognize any rivets similar to the one You show in rather blurry/unfocused images... now I tend to believe the company makes industrial... not aerospace... BRs.

Also, the term 'Monolock' as-related-to blind rivets is unfamiliar to me... until I Googled it. I found images for 'monolock blind rivets': all of the images appeared to be industrial... not aerospace... BRs.

Is this for a homebuilt aircraft?? NO certified aircraft OEM [I'm aware-of] would allow these on their aircraft if they do not conform to existing BR specs.

NOTE.
The rivet images appear to be similar-to NAS1398Bs or Ds... all-aluminum... wire-draw cherry locks.

BTW... the [bleary/unfocused] manufacturer 'Au-ve-co'... and fastener-head code-symbol... do NOT appear in MIL-HDBK-57H [2017]... although the symbol 'vaguely-sorta' looks like an inverted 'T' ~= Townsend [Cherry rivet]… although it might just be a '.L '

Hi all thanks for the support.

this is an aerospace certified rivet. Made by Cherryaerospace. The rivet has a symbol 'T' on top of the head (inverted anchor shape). That is specific to the customer. The marking '2' represents the grip range for the riveting tool.

This type of stem head will be trapped inside the rivet head. That results more strength/vibration resistance/sealing.

The colors are related to the anodization. Head is clear and stem is yellow anodized.

My company is into design / manufacturing of aerospace mechanisms and procurement of parts for aircraft maintenance. This components is for maintenance activities. I have ordered these samples from UK. Waiting for the delivery.

are you using "monolock" as a generic term ? to describe a blind rivet ?

when I google it all I get a pictures of blind rivets and links to "Monobolt" rivets by Auveco ... and these don't seem to be aerospace quality.
and I don't think Auveco is part of Cherry, although Cherry do, of course, make blind rivets.

V_VV..

Lets get this straight: You need the type-rivet shown... which I suspect is re-sold by 'Au-ve-co'... in a diameter or grip length not available thru that company... correct?

IF SO please tell us what diameter and grip length You actually need... for this style rivet? These rivets are available in nominal English diameters up-to 0.250-in Dia

Cherry [and their vendors] supply these rivets under Cherry-Rivet part numbers... and under the NAS1398 and NAS1399 specifications... interchangeably.
NOTE.
These same rivets were redesigned with a different installation system... more-in-common to cherry-max... and those parts were designated CherryMax AB...
NOTE. There are 0.016-inch oversized [1OS] versions of these styles [primarily for repair]… but not above 3/16-Dia+1OS

Here is an 'old' Cherry Fasteners master-cross-listing...

@RB 1957, Monolock is specific to this type of stem head. Cherry has NAS-qualified rivets of this kind. Please refer to the attached.

@WK TAYLOR, Thanks for the shared excel.

I have selected the rivet number as per the spec sheet in the attachment (my attachment). Please share if you have any aerospace part supplier contact. I have many items are in pipeline to procure.

TAYLOR, Thanks for the info about oversized rivets for repairing purposes.

please clarify your term "monolock", which is not on the Cherry spec sheet.

ok, but the only thing that the internet links to "monobolt" is that Auveco thing (and other non-aerospace, Avdel);
which is why we were suspicious of it.

of course "MBC" on the Cherry spec could be MonoBoltCherry ?

Just had a look for MBC info. Nothing found.Have to dig into reg trademark.😎..
