Hi all, this is my first time posting on the forum. I have been using NX for about 4 years and came across a problem I cannot model.

To simplify the problem, I will use a block. I am trying to extrude the block along an axis that is in the center of the block, while having the block rotate about that axis 2 full rotations over 4 inches. So it would be one full rotation every 2 inches.

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to rotate the block while extruding it. Please help!

Thanks you,

Brian

By 'Block', I assume you mean a rectangular profile/sketch, correct?

Is, draw your profile/sketch and then create a 4 inch long Line normal to and centered on your profile/sketch, to represent the axis of your 'twisted-soild' that you want as a result. Now select Insert -> Sweep -> Swept... and select the 4 inch long Line as your single Guide and the profile/sketch as your single Section, using for your Orientation Method a Rational Law suing the Linear Law Type setting the Start and End Values to 0 and 720 and hit OK. Your result should look like the attached image.

John,
Some of the edges don't quite line up. Is the axis not in the center of the block or is something else going on there?

I'm sorry, I wasn't as careful when I created my example as I had been when I described the procedure. The image below matches exactly what I described previously.

Again, sorry for the confusion ;-)

John, Thank you very much for the fast help. Your explanation was exactly what I was looking for. I never experimented with the different law functions before and that did the trick.

Have a great week!

John,

I do have an additional question. I got it to rotate and am playing with all the preferences, but can't get it to rotate the opposite direction. Any help would be great.

Thanks!

Brian

I got it, as its simple to add a negative sign. Lack of thinking on my part. Thanks again and have a great week.
