Hi,

Can anyone suggest where I can find the S9R5 element in the shell element library in Abaqus?

As per Abaqus documentation, getting started with Abaqus, the S9R5 element should be available in the element library of Abaqus standard. But I am not finding it there.

Can anyone advise, please?

many thanks!

Those are 9-node doubly-curved thin shell elements with reduced integration and 5 DOFs per node. They are not available in Abaqus/CAE but you can define them using the following keyword syntax:

*Element, type=S9R5
el_number, node_1, node_2, node_3, … , node_9

On github you can find a script named "gen-abq-S9R5" that converts standard S8R5 elements to S9R5 ones.

Thanks for the response.

Could you please clarify the below points:
1. In the keyword section if I have defined S4R elements, I should replace that with the keyword *Element, type=S9R5?
2. What is the meaning of the second line?
Do I have to manually input element numbers and 9 node numbers for each element? How is that possible?

Thanks in advance!

You might have missed the edited version of my answer, there is a script that will prepare the definitions for you and you only have to mesh the model with S8R5 elements.

Great! many thanks!
