One of our customers has asked us to fabricate a replacement air receiver tank for their facility. The existing vessel is designed for 125psi @ 650deg. F and is constructed of SA-455 material. I would propose using SA-516-70 for the construction of the replacement vessel due to availability. I've checked the stress values allowed for each material in Section II Part D - they are the same at 650deg. F.

What, if any advantages are there to using SA-455 material as opposed to SA-516-70?

Any input would be appreciated.

Go with the SA 516 Gr 70. Improved notch toughness.

SA455 Heads should be available commercially they are std parts, shell is different.
