Hey,

I need some assistance in this, my mind can't seem to probably figure it out the right way. Anyways here is the issue, I was asked to create an excel calculator to calculate what Saddles size would support a vessel with a specific size. anyways so i did my due diligence, after extensive work on the excel and some head bangs on the wall i did both calculators for the Zick analysis for a two support saddle, and I did another sheet that works on vessels that requires more than two saddles. My boss came back with " no this is not what i am looking for, I am looking for an excel calculator that i would give the field guys who are not engineers and all they have is a measuring tape for which then they would put in the height, length , and width of the available saddle that is in front of them and it would tell them what kind of vessel it would fit." Am i missing something here ? How does that work I can't seem to figure this out anymore. I didn't find any standardized table for saddles.

I would appreciate the help and assistance in this or guidance to what i should be looking at/for!

Thanks in advance

Do you have significant experience with the field use of cranes in a working environment, perhaps from before college?

No, but it is a part of what i will be working on amongst the projects we get. Usually we sub-contract those services. They have their own Engineers who deal with those requirements/calculations.

We just end up reviewing what they provide us and recalculate to ensure accuracy and no mistakes are there before we move further with executing the transportation.

They usually send their Project manager, my company also ends up sending our engineer to the field to make sure that everything is going into plan appropriately.

Later on it will require that i have to be on field to monitor the job/project and ensure they are working appropriately up to the set standards and up based on what we have agreed on in the contract.

Knowledgeseeker101 - Reviewing/monitoring a project is different than performing the work. Each has it's own challenges. I've done both (for the record, I had already earned a PE before becoming a Bridge Contractor).

I believe you would benefit from pursuing the NCCCO rigging certifications... on your own time at your own expense:
Either you will pass, which will give you additional credibility in the field.
Or you will not pass, be no worse off, and possibly gain insight into the details for this type work.

IMHO it's always good to become educated in areas related to your field of work. Go for the NCCCO..
