I've been dealing with a large assembly 1000+ components. When we save the file for the next user we always leave all components unblanked (shown). Is it possible save a configuration with certain components blanked within the assembly file. I'd like to be able to quickly turn off and on about 800 components each time when I load this assembly.

Thanks in advance

Use bookmark files; they will save the hidden/shown status of components.
File -> save bookmark

To open the bookmark, go to File -> open and change the filter to type: Bookmark files and PLM XML (*.plmxml). Open the bookmark file, your assembly will be loaded and displayed the same as when the bookmark was saved.

Ok that was helpful thanks. Now if someone else works on the file and lets say they add a number of fasteners. What will happen with those fasteners? I presume they will be in the assembly tree. This is not the equivalent of open an old version of the assembly, correct?

The newly added components will show up in the assembly navigator. They will probably be hidden by default. You can always set the display as you like then save a new bookmark (or overwrite the old one) as needed.
