Do you need to capture copies of your SolidWorks images or for that matter anything else? I do a lot and have always used PaintShop Pro 9 as it has a really good facility. However, I just got a new PC and my old version of PSP won't run on Win 7.

I looked for an alternative and I just have to share my findings with you. Google CaptureWizPro.

What a program! Not only does it produce better screen shots but the video record facility is really really good. Much better than what you get in SW. Quite cheap too and of course free to try.

What do you think?

Looks like a good solution.

Have you read faq731-376 to make the best use of these Forums?

I will look into it. I currently use irfanview and it does the job well... great for free.

Pretty good with SolidWorks

Snag-it is another good one to try. I'll have to look into Capture Wiz Pro

Thanks,

CAD will not make better designers; it will only make poor designers faster...

ctrl-alt-shift-Print Screen captures active window. I also keep MS Paint on hotkey (ctrl-alt-p), good for cropping and recopying. Good enough for emails and handouts.

Windows 7 has a built in feature called Snipping Tool which is specifically made for capturing screen prints or parts of the screen. Its really good.

jack880,
that's an awesome tip! i was going to buy Snagit for my new computer at home, but will look into this windows software.

Thanks!

Check the copyright notice for irfanview. I checked quite a few years ago, and it was not free for commercial use.

If you want an image of your model, why not just save-as JPEG?

If you want a high quality image of your model, drop it into a drawing and save as Tiff or PSD. This gives you the ability to output images at print resolution eg 600dpi rather than screen resolution 72 dpi. Note - you don't need PV360 to obtain higher resolution renders.

By using the various Realview presets you can usually get something that approachs real life. You can then crop, resample, and resave into whaterver format you like.

We use this to good effect for all of our marketing material rather than photographs.

Interesting number of alternatives and I have looked at some of them. I have to say though that at the end I still think CaptureWizPro is excellent and worth every penny. I used it yesterday to make a movie of my model being spun around on screen to explain a particular set of features. Smooth and clear - not like the SolidWorks inbuilt thing. In addition, capturing just the parts of the screen I need as images is so simple.

Has anyone else actually looked at it and tried it?

jack880,
The snipping tool worked prefect when I test drove it ove the weekend in windows 7, thanks!
