Sealing surface of aqueous solution with liquid skin

I wish to seal surface of aqueous solution at the liquid surface to prevent evaporation. Solution contains acetic acid. This is a small stainless steel beaker about 10 mm that is half filled with solution. Cant seal with solid object like rubber cap

Can anyone recommend a resin or wax that could be floated on surface that will bond with walls of stainless steel can.

You answered your own question. Wax, just like my mother used to seal the top of jam jars in my youth. Melt and gently pour on, let cool. Done

However, waxes in general are probably not sufficient for the king of sealing you appear to be looking for, since waxes are not structural materials, except in bee hives...

Why can't a rubber cap be used? The typical wine bottle uses the cork to provide the primary mechanical seal, with the wax coming after, so why not a rubber cap, then wax?

Mechanical seals are not favoured . Not sure why . Seems like the obvious solution to me.
