When in a function where the user is being asked to select a 'Face', there will be an item available on the Selection Bar labeled the 'Face Rule', which will let you set the desired selection rule thus allowing you to use any number of schemes for selecting one or more faces of a model automatically, including 'Tangent Faces'. There are also some handy options like 'Adjacent Faces' where you select a single face and ONLY the faces 'adjacent' to THAT face will be selected automatically. There's also an option to select ONLY the face of a 'Feature' as opposed to ALL the faces of the body (but there IS one for that as well). There are a total of EIGHT different selection 'rules' available when you're being asked to 'Select a Face", which should cover about 99% of the situations out there.

And before you ask, when you need to select a 'Curve', you'll find that there are NINE different selection 'rules' available. Even when you're asked to select an entire 'Body', something where you wouldn't think there was a need for any 'rules', you're given THREE to choose from.

I think we've got this issue pretty well covered in terms of how we provide you tools which help you to easily select what you wish to and avoid selecting that which you do not.

Thanks for the reply, but I know about in function selections. I have a very big part with thousands of faces and I want to select all the faces on one side and change there colour, using tangent chaining.

And the problem is...

The problem is,I dont know how to select 1000 tanget faces with one dig, and change the colour of the selection. The tangent modifier/selection only appears when in a function.

Go to...

Insert -> Synchronous Modeling -> Color Face...

...and before you select any faces set your desired color. You can now select your faces using the 'Tangent Faces' rule.

colour face is not an option in (Insert -> Synchronous Modeling -> Color Face...)
But thanks for trying, looks like another win for Catia

If you're running NX 8.5, as you claim, then YES, selecting faces IS available when you're in the 'Color Face' function as shown below:

John, I'm running NX 8.5.3.3 (full menus) and I do not see the synchronous command "color face" anywhere; not in the menus and command finder didn't turn it up either. Perhaps some environment variable that needs to be set?

As an alternative, you can use "group face" (select tangent faces) and "assign feature color" to do essentially the same thing.

Perhaps my icon is disappearing as discussed in thread561-348981.

Also, CNSZU put out a tool a while back that might be of interest.

I'm running NX 8.5.3.3 and it's there. And it's not like I edited it or something, because I set my Role back to the out-of-the-box 'Advanced With (or Without) Full Menus' and it was still there and accessable. And as best that I can tell, there is no licensing issue which would cause it to not be available.

Yea, it appears that this was something that was never intended to be reelased but it does show up, in NX 8.5 only, under certain limited circumstances. Sorry for getting everyone excited but I am trying to get a status for when we might see this useful function in a future release. If I learn anything, I'll pass it along.
