I am trying to apply load in Ansys 12 in X, Y and Z Direction on Square Tube. In detail view I am choose Force under Type, Define By vector and magnitude as 100 N. The Direction I am clicking the default direction seesm to be normal to the surface. Which I am trying to chagne to lateral directions. It tells me click to change but in this is random

Also how can I apply a set 5 loads with set having different values for Fx, Fy, Fz, Mx, My, and Mz (Force and Moments)

How do I generat Brick Element (w 20 nodes) in Ansys 12. Is it same hex dominant meshing

Try defining your force "By Components" instead of "By Vector." It will allow you to specify components of your force, according to the coordinate system of your choice.

I'm not sure what you're asking in the second question, but maybe you should use 5 load steps, in "Analysis Settings." You can then vary your force and moment magnitudes and view the results at each load step.

A hex element with midside nodes kept should have 20 nodes - that sounds like what you're looking for.

Thanks for the reply, I am new user. May I will make myself more clear. Using Workbench 12

(1) I tried using force application by components this time. When I click on the surface (I-Section end face). Then force get applied on the flange center but I am trying to apply at the web center

(2) I have 5 load sets as below

Set 1 >>> Fx = 100 N, Fy = 120 N, Fz = 150 N, Mx = 10 N-m, My = 5 N-m, Mz = 15 N-m
Set 2 >>> Fx = 120 N, Fy = 110 N, Fz = 50 N, Mx = 11 N-m, My = 9 N-m, Mz = 10 N-m
Set 3 >>> Fx = 90 N, Fy = 130 N, Fz = 112 N, Mx = 12 N-m, My = 14 N-m, Mz = 16 N-m
Set 4 >>> Fx = 10 N, Fy = 30 N, Fz = 115 N, Mx = 14 N-m, My = 16 N-m, Mz = 18 N-m
Set 5 >>> Fx = 11 N, Fy = 15 N, Fz = 112 N, Mx = 15 N-m, My = 17 N-m, Mz = 19 N-m
and so on.....
Want to analyze for the above

(3) In WB 12, I am selecting Hex Dominant Method under Method. For this I get to select "Use Global Setting (Patch Conforming Method)". And Under Free Face Mesh Type I get two options to slect from "Quad/Tri" and "all quad". But there is no selection for 20 nodes

Please repond. I would highly appreciate. Thanks

I don't have Workbench 12 installed, so I can't simulate what you're seeing. But I'll do my best.

1. Do you want the applied force to be distributed over a face, or applied at a single point at the web center? When a force is applied to a face in Workbench, the arrow that represents the force direction appears at the location where the face was clicked on selection. But, if the face is selected, the force will still be distributed uniformly over the face. If you really want the force applied to a single point, you may need to modify your geometry in order to have a vertex to select. Is this your question?

2. Yes, you can analyze the load sets you've described in a single analysis by using steps. Static Strctural > Analysis Settings > Number Of Steps. You can make 5 steps. Then, for your applied force and applied moment, you can define the component values you would like at times 1-5. Does that make sense?

3. If your geometry is really just a solid I-Section, try a swept mesh. Mesh > Advanced > Element Midside Nodes > Kept. That should ensure that you get your 20 node elements.

Good luck.
