Good morning everybody
J'm interested in selection of material for seals which will control air flow to a diesel engine.
Temeperature range of the gasket: Temperature range = -40 ºC to +170 ºC
Maximum internal pressure (Pi) = 3.2 bar absolute.
Pressure range across the seal = -0.275 bar to +2.2 bar relative.
Fluid resistance
The seal shall be able to resist the following:-
Diesel fuel.
Bio diesel.
Engine oil.
Engine coolant / ethylene glycol

J am thinking about rubber based on FKM material.
Could anybody help me with selectiong approporiate material for this purpose?.
Thank You
Mike

If you want details on FKM contact DuPont Technical for details. Silicone rubber might be an alteernative.

Hi all,

sorry for answering so late.

Fluoro rubber (FKM) has a week point in cold flex. Minus 40 °C is very difficult even with incredibly expensive special types.

Looking at the requested oil and diesel resistance I would recommend fluorosilicone.

Have a look at Dow-Corning page for SILASTIC LS-types.

Thank You very much to all
but
1) If J good remember ACM material is not resistance to Ethylene-glycol solution and biodisel.
2)H-NBR J' affraid about the upper service tem.
3)FVMQ should be good choice(the price is the most important parameter) but it swell more in disel oil than FKM.
