Hi All...

Does anybody have a solution to change the selection preference when Hiding components in view (In drawing) ?
Currently I have the issue that when I want to select the components the selection tends to prefer my complete assembly instead of the individual components.
Type filter is (of course )is set to component. I have to wait until the quickpick appears to be able to select the individual components.

In addition, I do find it strange that I am able hide the toplevel of the assembly. This could result in the fact that I hide my complete Drawingset component in the views.

Hello,
This can be done with layer management.
Move the components to different layers and then make the required component layer visible in the required view.

Please le me know if you need any help.

Thx#

Hi BGD.
Thanks for the answer but this is not possible for us.
Layersettings (drafting) and Assembly environment is setup in such a way that all components (with some minor exceptions) will be on Layer 1.

Have Tried View dependent edit -Erase objects Option??
Thx

There are two approaches that will solve this problem and I've give you a selection 'trick' at the end.

To start with, you could change your 'Selection Scope' to either 'Entire Assembly' or 'Within Work Part and Components' which should allow you to then select whatever individual Component(s) that you desire.

Second, you could just open the Assembly Navigator and using the normal selection gestures, select the individual Component(s) from the Assembly tree.

Anyway, give that a try.

Now for that selection 'trick'. If you're tired of having to WAIT for the 'QuickPick' dialog to become available, may I suggest that you simply turn it OFF. Now before you think that this sounds crazy, bare with me a minute as I think you're going to like this.

Go to...

Preferences -> Selection...

...and when the dialog opens, in the section labeled 'QuickPick', toggle OFF the 'QuickPick on Delay' option and then hit OK. Now when you place your cursor over an object on the screen nothing happens. You'll NEVER see the three 'dots' (...) again. That is UNTIL you press MB1 for approximately 1/2 second and then release it, the QuickPick dialog will appear. By making this simple change, you will no longer have to wait for QuickPick nor will it ever pop-up when you didn't really need it simply because you paused too long with your cursor over an object. You now have complete control over IF and WHEN the QuickPick dialog appears.

Anyway, give it try, I think you'll find that this will make QuickPick a much easier to use.

Sometimes when hiding components like you are doing I work in the expanded view, and rotate the view with my spaceball so some of the components are easier to select.

View depended Edit I do not consider a good way of working to hide components from a view. Especially where there is a dedicated function for it.

Already did this. No effect.

Could do that indeed, but the assembly contains a lot of components and not all of the Identical components need to be removed.. Bolt Array for instance...only half the number of bolts need to be removed from the section view. Directly selecting them from the view takes less time of course then having to find them in the ANT.

This is a very handy tip...certainly going to keep this setting...Also makes it a bit eassier to select the correct components.
Not completely though.

The toplevel still has the preference when moving the cursor around in the view. every time the system tries to select the complete assembly which of course takes some time and slows down the process.
I don't remember this happening in Pre NX8.5 versions.

Good one as well, however also in here the Toplevel has the preference over the components.
