Im working in a tilt-up project as an in site supervisor. Almost every panel is developing cracks, some of them diagonales others horizontal, even in the connections and in the oppenings, few of them penetrated a cosiderated depth of the panel.. Just wondering if anybody has had any similar experience about this.. because I'm starting a new proyect soon and I want to get rid of all those cracks.
Here is some info about the panels..
- solid concrete walls 36' heigh and 22' width
- 18' heigh and 27' width with insulation boards with conectors and casting was at the same day (this panels presented more cracks than the other)
- concrete had enough strengh when lifted and steel was placed correctly
- concrete f'c 4ksi with aceleration 80% strenght in 48hrs and 5.5 in slump
- all the panels hacve welded connections in the foundation and in the top of the panel with the structure at the top of the panel

Thanks you! I will Appreciate all comments

Did the EOR account for the lifting stresses on the wall during design? Quite often this is the controlling factor.

...and what type of rigging was used in lifting them? What type of lifting connectors were used.

A few additional questions:

1. How much reinforcing was used?
2. What is the location of the reinforcing?
3. How were the panels cured?
4. Is the 5 1/2" slump from water or admix?
5. What is the actual construction of the multi-wythe panels?

Tilt-up panels can be tricky, as you want accelerated cure to allow for lifting. This can and often does lead to excessive shrinkage. You also have to be careful about the number and types of panel to panel connections. In my past life, we would limit connections to only those needed for overturning.

You have not explained the activity or operation that caused the panels to crack.
