Sheet Pile to Cap Connection

Hello all,

I have a design condition where steel sheet piling will be embedded into a concrete cap. The design requires the connection to be designed for a large tension force. My questions are as follows:

1. Does anybody know the bond strength between steel and cast-in-place concrete? I can't seem to find my old reference for this anywhere.

2. Any good details for this type of connection floating around out there? I'm expecting the bond strength to be too weak, therefore I'm considering welding a continuous plate to the end of the sheets.

I don't think I would rely on bond between sheet piling and concrete to carry a large tensile force. I like your idea of a continuous plate welded to the end of the sheets and anchored into the concrete.

I have seen this done with holes burned thru the sheet piles and ties in the cap extended thru the holes.

What is generating the large forces?
 
When pouring large tremie seals at the bottom of cofferdams, contractors will install shear studs to tie in to the reinforcing steel of the concrete. A similar application could work in this case.
