So I have modelled a simple flat bar with 5 plies, I can see my ply stack plot so I know it's modelled correctly. When I analyze it, I use one integration point and specify which to use in my field output. My result is different von Mises stress for each ply at different location, exactly what I expected. Why can't I see different displacements for each layer? There is no selection for the plies under the section points in field output, like there is with the stress calculations. Any help?

Different displacements in the plies would only occur if the composite was delaminating!!

Well theoretically, there should be different displacements for each ply if I assign them a thickness. It doesn't necessarily have to delaminate for each ply to have a displacement. The test sample is deforming so I don't see why I'm not getting the correct results.

No theory in particular...I just think, mathematically and depending on the degree of deformation, there should be a net difference in displacement between all layers in any direction. Maybe not in the direction of the force being applied, but definitely in the direction the bar is longest. This might be too complicated to explain on here with all these directions...I'll dig a little deeper, thanks anyways.
 
So, you think that plies can move relative to each other, but this does not mean delamination?
