I need to shrink fit a brass slip ring onto a mica covered shaft. The slip ring is approx 8.00" OD with a bore of 4.25".The shaft has about 1/8" thickness of mica wound onto it.How muck interferance do I need and what sort of temperature should I heat the slip ring to?

Is this assembly static or dynamic?

Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience every time.

Machine design texts such as Shigley have good sections on shrink fits. You'll need to know the elastic moduli and dimensions of all the materials involved.

Seems like it might be difficult to predict the behavior (i.e. effective elastic modulus) of the wound mica.

A 200 deg F increase in temperature of the brass ring will increase its i.d. about .009".
