Sketch, dimension intersection

Does anyone have any insight as to why you cannot dimension an intersection in sketching? (using NX9)

Create a Sketch Point at the intersection of the two curves and then you can create constraint dimensions to the Point object.

To an Engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.
 
FWIW,

If you create the corner first & dimension it, then round it with a fillet/radius, the Sketecher will create the intersection/point for you.

My situation was a little different than that. See attached image, the intersection circled in red is what I actually want to dimension to. If I didn't extend the profile beyond the part I would obviously be left with a little sliver that wouldn't get subtracted.
