I have turned "Fixed Text Height" turned off in my Sketch Preferences so that sketch dimensions autoscale when I zoom the view. Now I find that any sketch dimensions created before I turned it off scale fine but if I create a new sketch, the dimension text height is very large and will not scale when zooming. What's wrong?

In the first place, you toggle the 'Fixed Text Height' option ON if want the sketch dimension to autoscale as you zomm in and out. That's what the word 'Fixed' means, they stay the same size relative to the screen irrespective of the actual display scale.

As for the difference in behavior, when running NX 5.0, if you set the Sketch Preferences while a Sketch is active it will ONLY effect that particular Sketch and NOT any other sketches nor any new ones which are created. However, if you set the Sketch Preferences while a Sketch is NOT active, it will only effect Sketches created in the future.

Note that this behavior has changed somewhat starting with NX 6.0. From now on changing Sketch Preferences, whether a Sketch is active or not, it will ONLY effect the next Sketch created. However, when a Sketch is active there is now a Sketch Style option which is specific to the current Sketch and you would change this behavior there. This change was made to make Sketch Dimensions consistent with Drafting Dimensions in that editing Drafting Preferences only effects future Drafting objects where as editing existing Drafting objects is done by selecting them and editing their 'Style'
