Hello everybody:

Sliding gates or bureau have been installed in a dam bottom outlet, with a working head of 70 meters. For reasons of filling the reservoir, in the opinion of the owner of the project it is necessary to have these gates available to discharge, if necessary, and thus regulate the level of the reservoir.

The Contractor opposes this proposal on the grounds that these gates can only operate fully closed or open.

In the specific technical literature on sliding gates or bureau, it is stated that these can regulate the outlet flow through bottom outlets, without restricting the opening range of the discharge duct, that is, they can remain open in any position.

Any comments? Thanks.

- The contractor is right ..The gates should operate for fully open or closed. It is not reasonable to regulate the flow with gate valve etc..

- If the gate valve is used for flow control , cavitation will damage the valve in a short period. The flow control for this case should be with NEEDLE / PLUNGER VALVE

The following videos and doc. useful to see the concept of implosive cavitation and needle valve operations .. ( The docs. of VAG and ERHARD is attached here just for info.)
