Solid Body Attribute permanent?

We have a program (not sure if it is a GM or standard program) at MENU / TOOLS / MATERIAL / ASSIGN MATERIALS

When we use this to assign a material to a solid body, the attribute for that solid body becomes permanent. (See Image) The "X" to delete the attribute is grayed out and it shows it is locked.

The problem this causes is quite often to save time, designers will steal a detail from another tool and just make a few changes. We have buttons that will automatically delete the attributes from a solid body and give it new attributes, but these now error out because the program cant delete the attributes that are locked.

Does anyone know if there is a setting to make it so this material attribute doesnt get locked?

"Material" is in NX11 (11 ? , NX12 definitely) a "system attribute" which you cannot manually set or delete.
But, if you go into Tools - Materials - Assign material, you can either "unset" or assign a different material.

This is definitely NX11. Sounds like it is something GM gave us then. We have an "Assign Materials", a "Manage Materials" and a "Manage Library Materials". Opening all three I have not found anything like "unset". I did find a way to remove the material from the body but it doesnt remove the attribute category. That is still locked and interferes with the other buttons.

I think my options are
A) Find a way to make my buttons delete all but that one attribute and just clear the material assigned to the attribute category.

B) Create a button that will add the correct density to solid bodies (depending on what material you select) as a replacement for the assign materials and look into stopping the other Assign Materials from being used anymore.

C) Have the IT person put a complaint into GM about it and see if they will give us a fix.

Sorry, i did not remember this correctly.
I thought that there was a button to "remove assignment" but either there is no such , or has never been.
NX12:
I managed to go Tools- Materials- manage materials..., set the list to local materials ( maybe easier to find the assigned material this way)
then select the material with the green "tick" , rightclick -remove usages. Rightclick - Delete seems also work.
The material attribute should then disappear.
( See Customer defaults -Site- Gateway- Material/Mass )

Kenja824,

It's a customer default that's more than likely set by GM - Customer Defaults -> Materials/Mass -> Attributes tab -> Object Material. It should only be appearing if you're in the GM Environment and assigning a material to a part. If the part doesn't have a material, you should be able to remove all of this with Part Cleanup....but I'm not 100% sure if that will work or not in NX11 but I'm certain it did in NX9.

For me , the attribute disappears when "remove usages"
also, it is an out-of-the-box default.

Strange. If I click on "Remove Usages", the green check only turns to a red "o". If I set my filter to "solid body" and do a properties on the solid that had it, I get this...

If I delete the material instead of "Remove Usages", it looks like it disappears completely. But if I set my filter to Solid Body and do a properties again, it still shows whats in this picture.

The value is gone but the attribute is there still and because it is locked, my journal cant remove all attributes.

We have a button to run part cleanup but I opened it to check the settings and found there is one for deleting all materials. .... Still didnt work. Properties still looks like this picture.

Thanks for the help. I do appreciate it, but I am thinking I just need to look into changing my journal or the designers will have to export a parasolid and import it to replace the original.

I have submitted an IR/ER regarding this. That removes "materials" used in the studio environment, not materials assigned via Tools, Materials, Assign Materials. That's why the attribute remains. I think I have GTAC convinced this is confusing, and needs to be addressed.

In the Manage Materials dialog:
Remove Usages. This un-assigns the material from the body that is using it.
Delete. This removes the local material from the part file.
