SOLIDSECTION REF. NODE 15543 INSTANCE PART-1 IS NOT ACTIVE IN THIS MODEL
Does anyone know how to solve this? I am trying to model a 2D generalized plane strain model. For this a reference point is needed (and I have managed to define one) and I'm guessing that it is this point that somehow needs to be transformed into a reference node. Any suggestions?

For generalized plane strain just choose any node on the model as the reference node. If a node is not active in the model then it may be because it's on a surface that is in contact with another.

No I have not been able to solve it, I decided to do a plane strain model instead, which gave approximately the same values when comparing with ANSYS

I have exprienced the same problem when I was trying to create a generelized plain strain section. Is there a way of creating a generelized plain strain section without creating a reference point?

No, for generalised plane strain you may need to restrain the rotation of the section as well as the axial direction (which is equivalent to plane strain), so you need a reference point. If you don't have thermal expansion then just use the plane strain element which doesn't require a reference point. Otherwise you select any node on the model as the reference point, restrain it , and then manually edit the input deck to modify that node to restrain the axial and rotational directions (about 2 axes), if required.

Thanks...I am using plain strain as my element type when I create the mesh but when I create my section I don't have an option to choose plain strain. Its either generelised plain strain or homogenous.

My model is two dimnesional and deformable and its not rigid. If I use a reference point that means the model is rigid!!

When I create a reference point I get the same error as 'sarasvensson'.

I was also wondering whether this problem only occurs with ABAQUS 6.8??

I had this problem in ABAQUS 6.7.
