Speculation: What will be the next version of NX? 2

NX12 has been released...

Siemens states, NX12 is the last "numbered" version of NX. There won't be an NX13.
Siemens doesn't yet want do disclose how they are going to continue but I am guessing they are going to follow the same way as Microsoft Windows 10 releases.

My big question is, will this finally resolve the backwards compatibility issue? Are we going to get future upgrade packages once the new version is released?

Now to clarify,
"there won't be an NX13" does not mean that the product is terminated,
Only that Siemens is changing the numbering method and release procedure. ( Moving away from the current 13-month cycle)
Mike also said that "we will release features when they are ready", This is similar to NX11, which included new features in 11.0.1 and 11.0.2 .

I doubt that this has anything to do with backwards compability, NX introduces completely new features in new releases,
example "Combine feature" in NX12
- How would such a feature be treated in NX10 ? the feature tree containing a "future feature" ?

I keep wondering if this has anything to do with how Onshape is handling there updates. With true zero cost updates they have a nice way to implement updates being all hosted on a remote cloud server. (Browser Based CAD) NX for the most part is installed locally, which means for every update, all computers must be updated at the same time. There are some companies who run NX off of a local server.
Siemens talked about zero cost updates at PLM world, which was explain to me, no more companies pre testing the new release just update and go. Since their quality of updates have been greatly improved over the years.

Will be interesting to see how this works out.

Well, zero cost updates is a way of , "putting it to the customer"...
As long as you pay maintenance , the updates are for free and have always been ! ( yes, i have worked together with Sales and Marketing for long time
I did not visit PLM World, but i hardly doubt that Siemens would cut the maintenance costs.

Somebody from Siemens stated at the PLM Europe something similar to "since Daimler can install all the updates as they are released, everybody can".
Still to see if "everybody" is ready to do so or not.
