I am looking for similar method of securing metal to wood, but the contractor prefers using Simpson Strong-Tie products. The Simpson ties available are typically designed for either compression or tension, but my design needs to handle both.

Can you show a top view of the full length? Its not clear what is overlapping what over what length.

Not many products out there for what you want to do. I think you'll have to stick with the plate.

Though...that plate is short if you're trying to transfer moment. The plate can do it, but the wood won't perform all that well. I prefer two groups of fasteners in shear forming a couple rather than a single group resisting moment.
