Split Line Single Side 1

I should be obtaining a total of two faces after the split line feature with "Single Side" is completed on the attached part. However, the resulting feature has three faces. Please advise.

That's probably because the sphere is a single face. If you split a hemisphere, you achieve what you are expecting.

If you place the ellipse sketch on the Top Plane, you will also get what you want.
