'Vented' NiCad batteries immediately suggests high capacity 'wet' cell types. Smaller NiCad batteries are unvented, except for the safety valve. Like lead-acid wet cells, banks of NiCad are topped up with distilled water, but are alkaline as the electrolyte is a dilute potassium hydroxide solution. Maintenence equipment should therfore be kept separate from that used for any lead-acid batteries that may be installed at the same location.

Check out SAFT and Hoppecke as a couple of manufacturers.

SAFT make the Uptimax and Hoppecke the FNC-VR which use similar recombination technology to achieve similar topping up intervals. Apologies to Alcad, I was trying to think of their name yesterday!

These are all excellent batteries.
I hope your pockets are deep.

I won't be paying, its a client requirement.

thanks for all the answers

Update - 'alledgedly' SAFT and ALCAD Ni-cads are 'very similar' and are being made in the same works in Sweden. [wink]
