Hi Everyone,
I am from Romania. We are constructing a precast concrete plant in Romania. For this plant, we will install a steam generator. Every supplier giving different information about steam traps. Which trap should i use? Inverted bucket or float&thermostatic?
what are the advantages?
working pressure is 6 bars. steam flow is 118 kg/h for each trap.
Thanks...

Hi Albertoremora,

The traditional mechanical traps do not provide high efficiency of heat transfer rate and often fail open during its operation, hence steam loss mean energy waste as well as the high capital cost.

As for me, the energy consultant in HK, I would sugguest recommend to my client the alternative solution, GEM venturi steam traps. No mechanical moving parts along with 12% - 30% of energy saving as well as 10 years performance guarantee. check out their website for references letter from some of the big name. i,e GSK, Total, Kraft food to see how much energy they saved and comments on the difference between mechancial traps vs GEM venturi steam traps.

Albertoremora - there's no single steam trap that does it all. It all depends on what you're trying to achieve - which I think the spirax sarco link adequately demonstrates.

I'm assuming you want to trap a header to keep condensate out of the system. ? Traditionaly float traps have been used with condensate collection pots or similar regularly positioned. Perhaps the gem trap will be suitable?

One tip... if your trap is at grade level and your header is up in a pipe rack, for goodness sake insulate the piping between your collection pot and trap... otherwise, you have a very efficient condensing leg rather than something that keeps the collection pot drained.

Cheers

Rob
