Hi guys,

I was wondering if you could provide me with any worked example in regard to design steel plate on reinforced concrete wall to resist the horizontal force..

I already designed the plate to resist the horizontal force, but I am not sure, when I need to design the wall and the base, do I need to consider the maximum moment induced by the horizontal force, or just use minimum reinforcement.

Many Thanks
Leo

Design for the actions induced by the force in case that creates a Reid forcing demand in excess of the minimums.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

Thank you for a quick response.

So what is the point to have the steel plate if it would not reduce the force on the wall?

Can you post a sketch and better describe what you are trying to do?

"provide me with any worked example in regard to design steel plate"....so you have not designed the plate?

"I already designed the plate"....so you have designed the plate?

Which is it?

"do I need to consider the maximum moment induced by the horizontal force".....YES
