STEP curve export 1

I have a file that I'd like to export to STEP214 format; I need to export the solid and curves (ideally also the coordinate systems). While I can get the solid to export, I can't seem to get the curves to export. I've tried the 'entire part' with 'curves' option selected and the 'selected objects' option (which I then specifically select the solid and curves). After re-importing the file to NX to check, the curves are not in the file. I can get the curves to export to IGES format, however, in this case I'd prefer STEP.

It seems that I was able to do this years ago at a different employer, so I'm not sure if it is a setup issue or translator issue. I found an old thread on the same issue:
thread561-227591
but there was no resolution. I tried saving a new .def file with my desired options, as mentioned in that thread, but it didn't help. In each case the STEP log files list the correct number of curves processed, they just don't show up in the file.

What should I check for curve output to STEP files? I'm currently using NX 8.5, but I've also tested this on NX 7.5, 8, and 9 with no luck.

Did you do a show all after you import your step file back into NX? We had a small issue close to yours but it was with assemblies instead of curves.

I've been working with a very small test file (an extruded rectangle - 1 solid, 4 lines). After import, the NX file shows 1 object on layer 1 (the solid). Nothing is hidden or on other layers. I also tried replacing the view to see if they were created as view dependent (I seem to remember that was an issue when importing dxf/dwg files at some point in the past). However, as best I can tell, the curves simply are not in the file.

Make sure on import back in, check to see that the on the geometry to import the curves box is checked as well as solids, its only solids by default

I banged my head against the wall for a couple of hours before I figured it out

Solved it for me

bmarchand,

Thanks, that got me pointed in the right direction. I was focused on the export .def settings file and forgot to look at the import .def settings file. The curves are in the STEP file and are now importing correctly.
