Structural Wood Products

Hi All,

I have a bit of experience with wood design, have done walls, joists, spec'd trusses etc... I am getting into some design of LVL/Glulam type beams, and am having a hard time finding any useful information (on the internet) on what, in general, these products are, how they are made, and how they differ.

Could anyone point me to a useful website or reference literature?

A great text book is "Sixth edition, Design of Wood Structures ASD/LRFD" by Donald E. Breyer, et al.

Purchase a copy of the 2005 Edition ASD/LRFD Manual for Engineered Wood Construction published by AWC AF&PA for general information on engineered wood products.

For specific manufacturers, like others indicate, iLevel is the site to visit. I had no idea Weyerhaeuser introduced this new "brand" grouping all their construction products.

For historical/older information, Google "Trus Joist International" or "Trus Joist MacMillan". They used to send out engineering binders. I'm not sure if Weyerhaeuser/iLevel sends hardcopies...

Yes, I-Level will send binders. Even better, they will deliver if you have an office within driving distance of a regional office. Getting a visit from a rep. will get info that's not readily obvious in the binder material.
