I just had a well drilled for a garage and a small appartment on top for a single residence only. The well depth is 500' at this I have 2gpm. The well driller recommend going 500' at approx 350' we had 2 gpm. I assume he went the extra footage for reserve. My question is how much reserve will I have and how to calculate what size HP. pump will be needed. What I would like to use as a pump is a MYERS or GOULDS pump. I am sure we need to know more to fill in the equation but rule of thumb is good for me. Thank You.

You have seasonal variations in water level, which can change up to 50 feet or so. Talk to your Council Engineer about that.

The other is the draw down of liquid level by the pump. In other words how much head difference is required to drive that 2 gpm through the sand to your pump. 2 gpm is not a lot so I'm guessing about 10 feet.

Again, talk to whoever will listen. Your pump Vendor may have a better idea from experience in your particular area. However he won't want to be pinned down either for that size of installation.

Then there is the real factor of safety in case you are all wrong. The worst that can happen is
1 - buy some more pipe
2 - buy another pump

That's what the factor of safety is for.
