Hi guys. Pump in question is a Gaso 1782 duplex recip in 200 deg crude oil service. This pump has three suction flanges available on the fluid end.

Can the suction stabilizer (pulsation dampener) be installed on one of the unused suction flanges, or must it be placed on the suction line?

I have alwayas placd them on the line itself and just blinded off the unused nozzles. I can't find anything that says otherwise. Seems to me it needs to go in the line to dampen out the pressure waves that are set up in the pipe, those waves probably not being found inside the suction cavity of the fluid end. What say ye? Thanks! Pete

Pete,

I am guessing that if you have 1700 series Gaso Duplex that is probablly a 1753 from the three suction flange description(Gaso 1782 is not a valid model number).

Yes, you can install the suction stabilizer on the suction flanges. The front flange is probablly not a good choice becuase that will make it hard to get to things for maintenance, but either of the end flanges will work fine.

The opening and closing of the valves is what creates the pulsation. So the pressure waves created from the fluid hitting a closed valve move throught the suction cavity before they ever set up in the pipe.

Hi Curtis, thanks for the great reply. I will proceed accordingly.

You are right - the pump is a 1753 - not sure where I got that other number.

Thanks! Pete

I've even seen the dampners placed in the horizonal position on the suction flange, if they are huge.
