For pumps off late many of the consultants suggest Suction strainer cum flow straightener instead of conventional Y-strainer or pot strainer( for larger diameter).
Request to elucidate with the specific advantages and limitations of the Suction strainer cum flow straightener.

Just my opinion:

1. Pipe fittings in a poor suction layout can promote flow swirling, which could lead to uneven flow entering the pump’s impeller. This phenomenon (emphasized with greater diameters) could create damages to the impeller. A flow straightener fitted upstream the pump can be an option to avoid the scenario above.
2. A strainer cum air eliminator could be a useful item to remove both air and other gases from suction pipeline.
