Super close tolerance gaging.

The company I work for, provides precision grinding services to our customers. We do honing, ID, and OD grinding as well as surface grinding on a large variety of materials. Typical diameter tolerances are +.000/-.0001" we also hold roundness and cylindricity to .000050" or less. Most of our parts are small, 5 to 50 parts in a handful. We have very good equipment to inspect and verify our parts to the customers standards. We are starting to have trouble getting new equipment that can inspect parts to our standards. Etalon, who supplied indicating micrometers that report to .000050", Is no longer making their legendary Mics. They say that their suppliers aren't capable of producing parts to their specifications. Is anyone experiencing the same problem? We need to find a comparable micrometer manufacturer.

The Etalon mic uses an analog indicator built into the frame. The mic is set to a master pin and then locked. A retract button pulls the indicating spindle back to allow the part to be inserted. Then the spring-loaded spindle clamps on the part at the same pressure each time. This provides very accurate gaging without operator intervention. (Most of our operators are temps). In addition, the analog readout (dial face and a needle) allows a more accurate reading.

I am interested in the mic you found as a personal mic !
