Hi-

I am having trouble finding a description and way to call out a surface finish on a flat machined part. What I am trying to do is analagous to knurling a round part but I want to do it on a flat machined surface. Anyone know of a standard for this or just some nomenclature as to what that is called so I can try and research it? When I look for surface finsih I get info on the RMS of rough parts, like just the smoothness of the part, when I try a search on metal texture I get all kinds of info about creating textures for photoshop and rendering programs

Thanks

MM

ANSI B46.1 "Surface Texture". This document will teach you everything you need to know in regards to surface finish, such as surface roughness, waviness, and lay. It will also explain the different types of equipement used to measure surface finish.

Don't know where you can find it for free, but here is where you can purchase it:

It's just a "vee" groove with a pitch between lines at whatever angles you want.
