For process equipment containing flammable liquified gases, no heavier than say propane or propylene, what is your assessment of the credibility of a pool fire:

A) Always credible.
B) Always not credible.
C) Case dependent, but typically credible.
D) Case dependent, but typically not credible.

Propane's boiling pt is -42 °C at 101 kPaa (or atmospheric pressure).

Propane's vapour pressure at 40 °C is 1370 kPaa.

So, in Alaska during the coldest of winter, at - 70 °C, a pool is typically credible.

In Brasil, along the equator, typically not so credible (unless the pressure increases, say at the bottom of a very deep hole, then maybe?)

I should have clarified this question.....let's assume that we're talking about geographic areas where the lowest temperature is well above the NBP of this LPG.

My answer still stands.

Whether a pool fire is credible depends on temperature and pressure, and the conditions of your particular case.

C4's are a lot more likely to form a pool. C3's ae a BLEVE concern. At low lattitudes with warm climates propane is not likely to hang around long in the liquid phase.

The worst case scenerio was the Brenham Texas fire explosion, there was no pool fire. You should be able to find this incident and a review.
