SW 2022 How do I import a Step Assembly so each part has its own sldprt file created 2

I am new to SW 2022
I have worked on previous versions for years

I used to be able to open a step assembly in SW and when I saved it as a sldasm it would create a separate sldprt file for each part in the assembly

I cant figure out how to do this in SW2022

Any suggeestions on how to set it to do this?

I tried that before; everything on that page
none of it worked

When i set to default I get an assembly only with stp files in the tree as parts but I cant save each step part individually

Same with import multible bodies as parts and import assembly as multiple parts

Is there a second setting i am missing

When I import the stp assembly as default
the tree shows stp files for each component listed
when i save the assembly i can save as a .sldasm but no individual sldprt files are saved

I want each part file to save individually as well as the assembly

Import as multiple body parts
the tree shows solid body listing but again referenced as .stp files for each component listed
when i save the assembly i can save as a single solid partr .sldprt file
even though individual files are in the tree, they are not in the computer directory


In my last version of SW when you opened a step assembly and saved it, it would automatically save each component part as a .sldprt file

That is what i want the system to do

Just coming back to SW after a 4-year hiatus. This was a mind-schtupp at first.

There are two sets of options to manage: General and STEP.

General is where you can deactivate 3D Interconnect. This will enable old-school import.

STEP/IGES/ACIS options is where you can control multi-body, etc.

OK - I would guess that the reason is they are preserving the STEP file link so that if the STEP file is updated the assembly will automatically read that in rather than creating a disconnected sldprt file. Seems like they could have made that more obvious. It seems like a more reasonable approach - STEP files are not typically being manipulated after import but they may get updates and why would one want to go through the import process again?
