It's unfair that us, SW customers that paied for support, must wait for some MS fix to have SP1.0! Why don't SW return to the earlier process for install SP? Apart the fact that it takes longer, much longer to install the SP, I don't see any other "benefits" of using the new install process (I've never rolled back any instalation and, if I ever need to do that, I will prefer reinstall SW).
And if MS takes one year to fix the bug?
If the injection of my car is dead, I don't care if it's BOSCH or LUCAS or if these companies have problems fixing the malfunction. The car manufacturer must solve my problem! I bought the car from him. SW should do the same.
The SP seems to be out on Early vis once again. This is the EV version of SP1.0 that everyone will see. So hopefully it will be soon.
I like the WI installer, I find it easier and much more configurable when installing. It's great for those that want to install silently, or SNL.
You want to reinstall but there are more customers that would not want to reinstall every time something breaks. One of the benefits is the Repair or Modify. This helps user fix SW issues without having to reisntall. This is a big benefit, and it doesn't take that long.
I think a normal install of WI takes as long as the old way of doing it, if the old way had as much information or data that SW05 has to install.
Solidworks 2005 "breaks" so often for so many reasons, and with so many service packs us beta testers must apply, it is logical that a clean/registry wipe install of 0.0 to the latest service pack will leave much less room for unknowns than applying/rolling back subsequent service packs.
The Solidworks forum attests to this in many threads.
The WI rollback feature is useless to many users who have been burnt by dodgy installations, and has no other tangible benefits over installshield. I also find it disturbing that Solidworks use our subscription money to help Microsoft develop this beast of a thing.
The Solidworks world series is touting new functionality for SW 2006 while SW2005 is unusable for many due to regressions like disappearing feature dimensions in assemlies- cannot edit existing equations- can't find the dimensions. A workable existing SW2005 would have been appropriate before flouting the next release.
I personally find the WI of significant benefit. I have SNL w/ 57 licenses and over 100 installed seats across the states. I don't know about you, but if you had to chuck in 3 CDs over a 30+ minute time for just one install you'd see the benefits of WI. I can do installs in less than 3 minutes, and my time is now better spent.

Bradley pointed out to me that this is the Release Candidate version. I remember getting and email, but the SW website doesn't list it as a RC version. SW should really point this out to all users whether they are on EV or not what version is being published. The Public version should be out soon.
The only SP1.0 for SW05 I see has a date of 17DEC04. That's not new.

Hi, just looked and can't find it either. I'm fairly sure though that what you see is determined by the serial number that you enter. Therefore it may be possible that we don't all get to see the same thing.
